Foggy Photo Walk… #netherlands #photography #travel

Yesterday was such a wonderful day.  It has been cold here, but we spent the whole day walking to one of our favourite areas and taking photos of the surrounds.  The weather was so foggy, it seemed nearly impossible to take a bad photo!

I spent a lot of time yesterday experimenting with various raindrop photos.  I am by no means a photographer, but I am happy with how some of these turned out.

The fog lent a mysterious air to our photos and made everything look dreamy and antiquated.

As it got darker, and the temperature fell, the fog intensified.

Before it got dark we got some really great shots, almost in sepia tone with a reddish hue.  My only regret is that my lens is dirty and you can see some definite dirt in some of the shots.  Maybe that just makes the shots look older? Haha.

I really enjoy these long meandering photo walks and it’s so nice to be able to do these walks in the winter.  I hope you enjoyed some of my photos!

A January Walk…

Everything is #Beautiful…

It was my four year bloggaversary yesterday apparently.  These days I am not very good at updating it.  But I wanted to share this video with you.  Cheezy maybe, but it made me so happy.  There is so much that we take for granted.  I suppose the answer is to try look at everything with fresh eyes, like it is your first time.

Brederode Castle #Netherlands

We went for a walk in the countryside yesterday and stumbled upon a castle. That’s something that just doesn’t happen every day back home. Unfortunately, since I wasn’t expecting to run into a castle, I didn’t have my camera and this video does it much more justice than I could have, anyway.

The Beautiful Tuschinski Theatre

Yesterday we went to Amsterdam and finally got to go to the historical and amazingly beautiful Tuschinski Cinema.  This theatre is for sure the most beautiful cinema I have ever been to and it was hard to not fall flat on my face as I walked around ogling the beautiful interior.  It has an amazing history, that survived the nazis, despite the fact that the owner did not, having been killed in the concentration camps. 

We saw The Grand Budapest Hotel and it was the perfect environment to watch a film from one of my favourite directors.  The beautiful set design of the Grand Budapest Hotel wove seemingly seamless with the interior of the theatre and it felt as though I was being pulled between both worlds at the same time.  Please go visit this theatre when you are in Amsterdam.

Beautiful #Utrecht…

Here are some photos from my trip to Utrecht yesterday.  It was predictably gorgeous and am happy to have been able to visit another Dutch town!

We are going to Utrecht today for the first time, so I should have lots of lovely photos for you at some point, later on. In the meantime: been watching this gals videos lately. She is exploring the raw food journey, and getting in shape for a trip to Everest Base Camp, which she and her husband are documenting for a documentary. Nice message here…

Magical Wanderings in Wonderland…

Yesterday we went to Elswout which is within (long) walking distance from where we are staying, in Holland.  Back in the day this used to be a summer property for the rich.  Now it is parkland which mystical pathways that lead you around into what appears to be Middle Earth.  Moss and bridges and trees.  So beautiful.

 

Saturdays…

Just two more days left here in Turkey and I can tell there will be things I will miss after I’ve had some time away.  I am very much looking forward to variation and options for vegetarians in the supermarkets as we head back to Holland on Monday, but I am not looking forward to dipping 15c and going to the non stop rain! Still, I’m on holiday and I can’t complain.  The weather is a helluva lot better than Canada!

This beautiful bread recipe was just posted on the My New Roots website and I cannot wait to try it.  Any kind of bread that purports to be healthy and doesn’t contain white flour has got to be good in my books and my time in Europe has me leaning towards this dense brick like breads.

A trip to #Leiden…

We went to Leiden today.  Another beautiful city, only fifteen minutes away by train…

Leiden is a beautiful city that used to be walled and many windmills still stand in their original places at the edges of the old city…

Also home to Rembrandt, you might accidentally stumble on his childhood home…
